Pastel Tiles Blanket – a Granny Squares and Granny Rectangles Project

I loved making this Pastel Tiles Blanket. It incorporates both Granny Squares and Granny Rectangles made in pastel colours. These are then joined using a contrasting colour and the effect is fantastic. The design incorporates my new and improved Granny Rectangle pattern (the ‘Even Better’ Granny Rectangle).

Video for the Modern Crochet Rectangle

Video for the Modern Crochet Rectangle has now been published and available on Youtube – this short video tutorial outlines how to make the Modern Crochet Rectangle, which is a variation of a Granny Rectangle. Easy to make and suitable for beginners, these rectangles can be part of a bigger practical project.

I am not very good at making video tutorials and working hard to improve this, as I know many people like to have a video tutorial. I still do not have the confidence to speak on my videos – hopefully this is something that I will start to overcome. Hopefully some people will find this video helpful.

Starting a new squares blanket design

I seem to have been working on this new project for ages, but I thought I would give you an update on where I have got to so far.

I started with these colours from the Stylecraft Special DK range – Pistachio, Meadow, Fuchsia Purple, Lemon, Blush, Pale Rose. I used hook size 4mm. The hooks I use are available here.

The pattern I used is a variation of the Granny Square, but the concept would just as easily work with the traditional Granny Square.

I have decided to use a contrast colour to make the bright colours ‘pop’.

Anyway, the update is that I am on the last few squares and will soon by looking to join the squares…..how do you think I should join these?

Colourful Crosses – Granny Square Variation

I wanted to share my latest project with you – the working name is ‘Colourful Crosses’, and is a Granny Square Variation. Over the last few weeks I have been working on a bright and colourful project. I needed something relatively portable to be able to take the project on my summer holiday. The colours are a mix of reds, pinks, oranges and yellows and are wonderfully uplifting.

Granny Squares are so addictive, and this variation was so aesthetically pleasing. The squares are worked in 3 colours in 3 different stages.

The first stage produces some beautiful little sweetie-like squares.

The second stage:

The third stage adds a little twist – some crossed stitches:

The best thing about these squares is that they turn out wonderfully ‘square’ and they are completely reversible.

I have decided to join the squares by sewing them, and am so pleased with how it works up so neat and still completely reversible. Not quite finished doing yet, and then on to a border.

Full pattern is to follow shortly.

Crochet Patchwork Squares

I have been so desperate to make a crochet blanket made up of different blocks of colour, but a design that does not involve individual squares or Granny Squares. I am so happy that I have finally worked this out, and have come up with this crochet patchwork squares design. Here is a little taster of what I have achieved so far. Remember you can get latest updates on my Facebook page and my Instagram.
