Pastel Rainbow Granny Stripe

This Pastel Rainbow Granny Stripe is based on a traditional Granny Stripe in beautiful pastel rainbow colours. I made this in a baby blanket size, but can be easily adapted to the size of your choice.

I used Stylecraft Special DK for this project.

The colours are: Candyfloss, Apricot, Lemon, Spring Green, Sherbet, Wisteria and Clematis.

Notes on the pattern

The first row is a row of double crochet (UK terms) to make a solid base for the Granny Stitch. The Granny stitch is simply groups of 3 treble crochet stitches – called a treble cluster – worked into the same space. The treble cluster is worked into the spaces between to treble clusters of the row below.

Abbreviations/Crochet terminology:

UK terms are used throughout.

ss – slip stitch

tr – treble crochet

dc – double crochet

ch – chain

beg-ch beginning chain

*to* – repeat indicated section

Stitch Guide/Conversion Guide

Granny Stripe Pattern

Starting Chain: Chain a multiple of 3, plus 2 for turning.

Row 1: dc into the 3 rd chain from the hook and then in each stitch along until the end. Turn

Row 2: Ch3 (counts as 1tr), work 1tr in first stitch (just below the chain), *skip 2 stitches, work 3tr in the next stitch*, repeat from *to* until 3 stitches are left, skip 2 stitches and work 2tr in the last stitch. Turn.

Row 3: For this row you will be working the groups of 3 trebles (treble cluster) into the spaces between the treble clusters in the row below.

Chain 3 (counts as 1 tr), work 3tr in each space along. When you reach the end of the row work 1tr into the top of the beg-ch3 worked at the start.

Repeat rows 2 and 3: until your desired length.

I worked 2 rows of each colour, but you could work as many different rows of each colour you choose.
