The pattern is a simple variation on the traditional Granny Square – it combines the principles of granny treble clusters and moss stitch.

Abbreviations/Crochet terminology:
UK terms are used throughout.
Ss – slip stitch
Tr – treble crochet
Dc – double crochet
Ch – chain
Sk st – skip stitch
Beg-ch – beginning chain
*to* instructions between asterisks will be repeated as specified in the instructions
Notes on the Primrose Granny Square
The Primrose Granny Square combines the principles of the traditional Granny Square (working groups of three trebles called treble clusters) and moss stitch (sometimes called the linen stitch). I have turned my work over after each round as I find that it helps to keep the square and even, and it makes the square reversible (which is what I like particularly when making blankets), but this personal preference. These individual squares (or motifs) can be joined together using your chosen joining technique to make a bigger project.
Instructions
Rounds 1, 2 and 3 are based on the traditional Granny Square, ie treble clusters worked as follows:

Foundation ch4, join with ss in first ch to form a ring (alternatively you can use a magic ring).
Round 1 Ch3 (counts as first tr), 2tr in ring, (ch1, 3tr) 3 times, ch1, join with ss in beg-ch. Fasten off.

Round 2 Turn work over. Pull up a loop in any ch1 corner space. Ch3 (counts as first tr), 2tr into same space, *(3tr, ch1, 3tr) in next ch1 corner space*, repeat from *to* twice more, 3tr in corner space where you started, ch1, ss into 3rd ch of beg-ch. Fasten off.

Round 3. Turn work over. Pull up a loop in any ch1 corner space Ch3 (counts as first tr), 2tr into same space, *3tr in space formed between the treble clusters from round 2, (3tr, ch1, 3tr) in next ch2 corner space*, repeat from *to* twice more, 3tr in space formed between the treble clusters from round 2, 3tr in corner space where you started, ch1, ss into 3rd ch of beg-ch. Fasten off

Rounds 4, 5 and 6 are worked in the moss stitch as follows:

Round 4. Turn over. Pull up a loop in any ch1 corner space, ch2 (counts a 1dc and ch1) sk st, *[1dc in next st, ch1, sk st] repeat until you reach the corner space, work (1dc, ch2, 1dc) in the corner space*. Repeat from *to* until you reach the corner where you started. Ss to the first chain worked in the beg-ch. Fasten off.

Round 5. Repeat round 4.

Round 6. Repeat round 4.

The final round is a round of Granny Stitch (treble clusters) as follows:

Round 7. Turn over. Pull up a loop in any ch2 corner space. Ch3 (counts as 1tr), 2tr in same space. *[Skip 3 stitches, 3tr in next stitch] three times, skip 3 stitches, [3tr, ch1, 3tr] in ch2 corner space*. Repeat from *to*. [Skip 3 stitches, 3tr in next stitch] three times, 3tr in corner space where you started, ch1, ss to beg-ch. Fasten off and weave in all the ends.
