Neapolitan Blanket

This blanket reminded me so much of Neapolitan ice-cream. The colours are lovely and cheerful. This blanket was worked on the bias, using the corner-to corner method. This stitch is moss-stitch (linen stitch, granite stitch).

I used 7 different colours of Stylecraft Special DK 100% acrylic yarn.

This colours are: Spearmint, Mocha, Blush, Lemon, Cream, Pomegranate, and Grape – 1 ball each except cream (2 balls).

You can purchase this yarn here.

You can find many tutorials and videos online for the ‘corner-to-corner’ moss stitch. I found a youtube tutorial by ‘Every Trick on the Hook’. For this project I used a 4.5mm hook.

I worked 7 rows of each colour in a random order.

It is really up to you when you stop increasing and decide the start to decrease. At this point you will be at the longest diagonal and will and you will see how wide your blanket is.

I did 129 rows and then did a transition row before decreasing.

I was not sure what colour to do a border in. In the end I went with the cream.

I worked 1 round of double crochet (UK terms), 1 round of half treble crochet (HTC), 2 rounds of double crochet (back loop only) and then [double crochet, chain 2 double crochet] in alternate stitch.

I loved this stitch and I loved how lovely and soft it came out. I would really recommend using a bigger hook than you usually use (I usually use a 3.5mm hook and it was such a pleasure to use the 4.5mm for a change) – I think that the larger hook was needed to ensure that the weave was not too tight and the blanket had a lovely soft drape. My finished blanket measured 110cmx110cm.
