Mellow Granny Square Blanket

This week I thought I would try to use up some of the greens and blues in my yarn stash. All were part-balls and left-overs from other projects. I am not a fan of mixing yarn brands, so I chose all Stylecraft Special DK.

Whilst I can’t give you a definitive list of all the colours used some of them were: storm blue, sherbet, aspen, aster, lime, sage, denim, lavender, khaki, petrol, spearmint……..

You can purchase Stylecraft Special DK here.

I used a 3.5mm hook.

As you know, my go-to pattern is a granny square. For this blanket I wanted to make several larger squares to join together. I made 12 in total, each with 11 rounds.

My intention was to join the squares on the 12th round using different colours for each square. But I was running out of yarn and wanted to keep some of the blues and greens for the border.

So I decided to use Palma Violet to join the squares. I was really happy with this choice. I joined using the join-as-you go method.

My border was simple, I added a round of trebles (UK) around the whole blanket in Palma Violet, 1 row double crochet in lavender, 1 row linen stitch in palma violet, 1 row linen stitch in storm blue and 1 row double crochet in denim.

I was really please with my finished blanket, it has a mellow and calm feel to it as the colours are not bright and ‘in your face’. The finished blanket measured approximately 75cm x 98cm.
