This page provides details on how I make granny hexagons, half hexagons and quarter hexagons.
Granny Hexagons

Notes about my Granny Hexagons:
There are many different ways of making crochet hexagons, just like with Granny Squares. I simply adapted my favourite Granny Square method to have 6 sides instead of 4. I found that this only worked if I changed the granny clusters (groups of 3 trebles) into groups of 2 trebles. The instructions below are in UK terms.

As I do with my Granny Squares, I turn the hexagon over after each round and start the new round in a different corner.

Abbreviations/Crochet Stitches (UK terms)
- Ss slip stitch
- Tr treble crochet
- Ch chain
- * * Instructions between asterisks will be repeated as specified in the pattern

Round 1. Use Colour A
- Chain 4; slip stitch in 1st chain to form a ring (alternatively you can use a magic ring).
- Chain 3 (counts as 1 tr); 1 tr into ring; ch 1;
- *2 tr into ring; ch 1*
- Repeat from * 4 more times so that you have 6 x two-treble groups in total.
- Ss into the top of starting chain 3 to close round.
- Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Round 2. Use Colour B

- Pull up a loop in any ch1 (corner) space.
- Ch3 (counts as 1 tr), 1tr into same space.
- Work *2tr, ch1, 2tr* in the next ch1(corner) space.
- Repeat *to* 4 more times.
- Work 2tr in the ch1 corner space where the round was started, ch1, ss into the top of starting chain 3.

Subsequent Rounds:
Repeat round 5.
Make as many as you need for your project. You can add as many or as few rounds as you like. You can then join the hexagons however you wish. I usually use the join-as-you go method. However if you want the work to have straight edges to your project (such as in a blanket), you will need to make some half Granny Hexagons and quarter Granny hexagons.

Half Granny Hexagons
You might notice from my photos above that two different types of Half Granny Hexagons are needed. Along the sides of my blanket in the photos there are ‘pointed’ Half Hexagons (the corner at the top), and along the top and bottom of the blanket are ‘flat topped’ Half Hexagons. Complicated, I know!!.

Quarter Granny Hexagons.
In order to make a blanket with four right-angle corners you will need to make 4 corner Granny Hexagons. Again this gets a bit complicated as you will need to make two different types!! These will be a mirror image of each other. You will need two each to complete a square or rectangle blanket/project.
