This giant granny square blanket is based on a traditional granny square – I have described this elsewhere on my blog, see here.
I used Stylecraft Special DK (100% acrylic), but you can use whatever yarn that you want to. I used Stylecraft Special DK in the following colours: White, Magenta, Aspen, Lavender, Clematis, Wisteria and Graphite. In all I used approximately 8 balls – approximately 1 ball each except the white, where I used 2 balls (you may need to adjust your quantities to suit your tension and your desired size). You can purchase this yarn here.

I completed 50 rounds of the granny square. I started and finished with Magenta. My colour order was Magenta, White, Aspen, Lavender, Graphite, Clematis and Wisteria.
I then added a base round for the border in Magenta (the base round is a round of double crochet (UK terms). This is outlined in the border instructions in the book below.
I chose a border from ‘Round the Corner – Crochet Borders’ by Edie Eckman. I selected border #130 and am really please with the result. I used White and Clematis for the border.

When I had completed the border I gave the blanket a gentle ‘blocking’. To do this I pinned the blanket to my blocking mats and sprayed with water and left to dry.

My completed blanket measured 103cm x 103cm. I hope that you have found this helpful. I love these colours together and find that it brightens any room.
