Aqua Chunky Cushion

I love these Stylecraft Chunky yarn colours together and they work up well in cushion cover. The chunky yarn seems to give a beautiful stitch definition and seems to work perfectly with the herringbone half treble stitch.

Find the full pattern here.

This pattern is for a 50cm x 50cm cushion but can easily be adapted to whatever size cushion you desire. It is super simple to make. Suitable for a beginner.

I used a 6mm hook.

Abbreviations/Crochet Terms (UK)

HBhtr – herringbone half treble – yarn over hook, insert hook into stitch, yarn over hook, pull yarn through the stitch as well as the first loop on the hook (2 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through two remaining loops.

Pattern

To make this cushion cover you need to make the two sides separately. They are joined when the two sides are complete.

To start: Using Cloud Blue yarn to make side A. Ch 48 + 2 (any number of stitches +2). Length should be approximately 50cm, adjust this if you want to make it fit a smaller or bigger cushion.

Row 1: HBhtr in 3rd chain from the hook and into each stitch along. Ch2, turn.

Row 2: Skip the first stitch, HBhtr in 2nd stitch and all stitches along to the end, working the last HBhtr in the turning chain. Ch2, turn.

Row 3-4: Repeat row 2. At the end of row 4. Fasten off Cloud Blue.

Row : Attach Aster yarn, ch2. HBhtr in second stitch and all stitches along to the end, working the last HBhtr in the turning chain. Ch2, turn.

Row 6: Skip the first stitch, HBhtr in 2nd stitch and all stitches along to the end, working the last HBhtr in the turning chain.

Row 7-8: Repeat row 6. Changing colour after row 8.

Rows 9 -44: Repeat row 6 until you have completed 44 rows, changing yarn colour every 4 rows.

Repeat for side B. Colour order that I have use is as follows:

Constructing the Cushion

You should now have two sides of the cushion measuring 50cmx50cm each.

You can join the two panels in any which way you choose. I chose to join with double crochet using Aster colour, with the right sides facing out.

To do this place the wrong sides together. Attach yarn in any corner. Work a double crochet all the way along, inserting through the top stitches of both of the panels. When you come to the corner work 3 double crochet and then continue all the way along again with double crochet stitches.

Work 3 sides, so that you leave an opening to insert the cushion pad. Then continue along with double crochet until you reach the starting corner.

That’s it – finished!
