A few days ago I starting making the granny square above. I used Stylecraft Special DK in graphite, white, lincoln and paler rose. You can purchase this yarn here.
When I finished these 10 rows I really did not know what to do next. I was torn between making lots of these smaller granny squares or whether the grow this one into a giant granny square.
I decided to opt for the latter. I added duck egg and lavender. I completed 50 rounds in total, before I added the border
I am really please with the finished blanket. It measured 106cm x 106cm.
I still might make a blanket with lots of the smaller squares!

This is another giant granny square. It is based on a traditional granny square. Instructions below are for a blanket approximately 106cm x 106cm. This depends on your tension and on how big you want to grow it. I completed 50 rounds of the granny square before starting the border, but you can do as many or as few as you like.
Materials
To make this blanket, which measures approx (106cm x 106 cm) you will need:
Stylecraft Special DK yarn in the following colours: Graphite (3-4 balls), White (2 balls), Lincoln (1 ball), Pale Rose (1 ball), Duck Egg (1 ball) and Lavender (1 ball). You can purchase this yarn here.
Hook: I used a 3.5mm hook (use what hook suits you best)
Scissors
Darning needle to weave in the ends.
Instructions (UK terms)
Start with graphite yarn and chain 4, then slip stitch into the first chain to form a ring. Alternatively make a magic ring.
ROUND 1: Chain 3 (counts as first treble), 2 trebles into the ring, chain 2, *3 trebles into the ring, chain 2*, repeat from *to* twice more. Slip stitch into the top of the starting chain 3 to close the round. DO NOT CUT YARN.
ROUND 2: Turn work over, slip stitch into the chain 2 space you have just completed. Chain 3 (counts as first treble), 2 trebles into the this chain 2 (corner space), 3 trebles into the next chain 2 (corner) space from the round below, chain 2 and another 3 trebles into the same corner space (to form a corner), repeat twice more and the this takes you back to the corner space that you started at the beginning of this round. Work 3 trebles into this corner, chain 2 and then slip stitch into the top of the starting chain 3. Cut yarn.
ROUND 3: Switch to white yarn. Flip over work and start in a new corner. Chain 3 (counts as first treble), 2 trebles into the corner space, 3 trebles into the space formed between two groups of trebles in round below, in corner space work [3 trebles, 2 chain, 3 trebles], continue around the square working [3 trebles, 2 chain, 3 trebles] in each corner and 3 trebles in between each group of trebles from the round below. When you complete the square slip stitch into the stop of the chain 3 you made at the start of the round.
ROUNDS 4-50: Each subsequent round is the same, but increasing the number of trebles you work along the sides. Remember to turn your work over after each round and when starting a new colour always start in a new corner.
ROUND 4: use lincoln yarn
ROUND 5 + 6: graphite
ROUND 7: white
ROUND 8: pale rose
ROUND 9 + 10: graphite
